Reporting to the Manufacturing Director, you will be providing expertise in the design and commissioning of small scale, highly specialised, batch chemical processes. Your contribution to developing the manufacturing capability of the business will be an essential part of this rapidly growing, high technology company.

This is a senior role that offers a unique opportunity to develop the world-leading technology required for the manufacture of novel, high value materials. It combines ‘hands-on’ personal involvement in design and technical problem solving with the challenge of managing multi-million GBP projects using external resources. Nanoco currently has laboratory reactors up to 20L, has detailed plans for a Kilo Lab with reactors up to 200L and outline plans for a pilot plant.

Specific duties will include: interfacing with Research and Scale-Up teams to define, develop and optimise processes; designing larger scale process equipment and support services; procuring external design and associated services, procuring process equipment, construction and commissioning services; leading or participating in HAZOP and hazard assessment; commissioning new equipment and processes; trouble shooting complex chemical processes and equipment.

You will have a professional engineering background with a relevant qualification to degree level and proven skills in scaling up complex chemical processes. You will have excellent technical engineering skills, project management skills, attention to detail, a high level of HSE awareness and be able to work autonomously. You will need to be a good communicator, be able to work well within a small team and to take a leading role on projects. You will be able to manage technical resources from external contractors as well as within the business.

Ideally, applicants should have a minimum of 10 years’ experience (5 years at management level) in the chemical/fine chemical, semiconductor or pharmaceutical industries, and have experience of scaling up processes from laboratory to pilot plant (reactors from 20L to 2000L). Experience should include hazardous process design and the use of HAZOP assessments.

The candidate should be fluent in English and have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with good computer skills.

Nanoco Technologies Limited is the wholly owned subsidiary of London Stock Exchange AIM listed Nanoco Group PLC and is a leading nanotechnology company developing and producing fluorescent semiconductor nanomaterials called quantum dots. Established in 2001, Nanoco has grown rapidly by working in close collaboration with leading quantum dot application developers around the world.

This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of a dynamic environment where your contribution will earn full recognition and reward.

We are proud to promote an open culture, encouraging people to be themselves and giving their ideas a chance to flourish.

Qualified candidates should submit a CV and covering letter to Human Resources by email:  hr@nanocotechnologies.com
